Installation: Permissions for Network-Based Setups

An Open System

Terrain Navigator Pro (running in network mode) is a fairly open system. It does not use advanced security or other tricks to operate. System Administrators may wish to restrict access to the server, or its files. However, there are certain files and folders that users of Terrain Navigator Pro must be able to read and write to.

Files at the Client Workstation

By default, the client workstation software for Terrain Navigator Pro is in the following folder:
C:\Program Files [ (x86)]\MyTopo Terrain Navigator Pro\
However, the user must have read/write permissions to these system folders:
C:\ProgramData\Maptech\Terrain Navigator Pro\
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Maptech\Terrain Navigator Pro\
Terrain Navigator Pro stores its data files in these locations.

Permission must also be granted to read and write from the following registry key (and all subkeys:)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Maptech\Terrain Professional\

Files at the Network Server

On the network server, there are two important locations that were configured by the person installing the software at the time of the setup. There is the location of the application files, and the location of the map data.

For example, the UNC path to the application files may look something like this:
\\Mapserverpro\serverdata\Terrain\
Where Mapserverpro is the name of the server machine, serverdata is the shared location on that sever where the application directory is, and Terrain is the application folder. The application directory will contain many sub-folders (such as 'AL1' - one for each CD region installed) a TPR2_00.INI file, and various other files and folders.

All users of Terrain Navigator Pro running in network mode must be able to browse to this directory via use of a UNC path. In addition, the user must have read permission on the TPR2_00.INI file and all other files.

The UNC path to the map data files may look something like this:
\\Mapserverpro\serverdata\MAPDATA\
Where Mapserverpro is the name of the server machine, serverdata is the shared location on that sever where the application directory is, and MAPDATA is the map data folder. The map data directory will contain many sub-folders (such as 'AL___40P851') - one for each state (or region) installed.

All users of Terrain Navigator Pro running in network mode must be able to browse to this directory via use of a UNC path. In addition, the users who wish to download aerial photos to the server must have read/write permission to all subdirectories; those who do not wish to download aerial photos may be granted read-only access.
