AutoCAD - Exporting maps from Terrain Navigator Pro

Using Terrain Navigator Pro with AutoDesk GIS applications

AutoDesk makes a family of related products for design and GIS applications. The procedure to accept maps exported from Terrain Navigator Pro varies from one product to another. In every case, the first step is to open the desired map in Terrain Navigator Pro and press the Export button on the Tool Bar. Select the Projection and Datum that match your project and press OK.

AutoCAD:
AutoCAD (release 14 or higher) will read TIFF images. Note, however, that without AutoCAD Map or CAD Overlay, the geo-referencing (or position) information is ignored. You will need to tell AutoCAD where to place the map graphic.

To import a map into AutoCAD:
1. Export the map from Terrain Navigator Pro as a TIFF (4.0 or 6.0) image.
2. Choose Raster Image from the Insert menu of AutoCAD.
3. Choose Attach, and Find.
4. Select the desired TIF file and fill in the placement information to determine the location of the map.

AutoCAD Map:
AutoCAD Map reads a variety of formats that retain geo-referencing (or position) information. Thus, map images exported from Terrain Navigator Pro will automatically be placed in the correct position in your project.

To import a map into AutoCAD Map:
1. Export the map from Terrain Navigator Pro as a TIF - Arc/Info (TFW), MapInfo (TAB), or GeoTIFF (Projected) image.
2. Choose Image from the Map menu of AutoCAD Map. (Be sure to use the Map menu and not the Image menu.)
3. Choose Insert.
4. Select the desired map image and choose the format in which the map was exported. The map image will be placed in the project at the proper location.

AutoCAD with CAD Overlay:
AutoCAD with CAD Overlay reads a variety of formats that retain geo-referencing (or position) information. Thus, map images exported from Terrain Navigator Pro will automatically be placed in the correct position in your project.

To import a map into AutoCAD with CAD Overlay:
1. Export the map from Terrain Navigator Pro as a TIF - Arc/Info (TFW) or GeoTIFF (Projected) image.
2. Choose Insert from the Image menu of AutoCAD with CAD Overlay.
3. Select the desired map image and choose the format in which the map was exported. The map image will be placed in the project at the proper location.
