  1. Position Marker Text

I would like flexibity in determining the placement of the marker text. Rather than use the label tool, I'd rather specify the quadrant the marker text is to be positioned, or better still, let me click and drag the text independently of the marker's position.

  2. Make polygons exportable like other objects: Markers, etc.

We use TNP extensively for our search and rescue team and have just started using polygons to identify search areas and separate projects for each operational period that the search lasts. If I could export polygons exclusively, I could easily build the basis for the next operational period and add polygons to extend our search area.

  4. snapping during data entry

simple snapping feature: hold down the shift button while drawing a distance line, track, route, marker, etc to snap to the nearest segment or vertex of a distance line, track, route, marker, etc

Part of this feature will be included in version 12 of TNP. Specifically, snapping of polygon vertices during placement and movement will occur automatically. This will address the concerns raised by garretprice.

Snapping of unlike layer types (markers to a track) or other layers of the same type (waypoint in “Route 1” snapped to waypoint in “Route 2”) are beyond the scope of version 12.

  6. More label choices

Please provide more format choices for labels. The little speech bubble shape looks very unprofessional, and the simple square/circle shapes have no pointers (adding lines to the squares/circles is possible but cumbersome).

  7. Add Opacity to Polygon settings

This is somewhat doable with Patterns, there being a series of patterns that range from essentially low coverage/clear to high coverage/solid. What would be ideal, however, is an Opacity option of the desired pattern. For instance:

    Fill Properties (of a Polygon):
    Pattern: Solid
    Color: Red
    Opacity: 50%
    Background color: Transparent

Application of this would be for a visual presentation of Probability of Area, how likely it is for the search subject to be in that area. Would be able to set some Polygons (acting as search segment boundaries) as 90%, some at 75%, some down at 50%, and barely visible…

  8. Make TNP more MS Office (or similar products) more import/export friendly

Make the export/import of markers more friendly to Excel, Access or similar applications. It takes too much formatting, file renaming etc. when this work could probably be done "behind the scenes" in letting TNP make the export files directly compatible and to import same files from other applications.
