One handy modification is easy. The default stacking order within some Layer types seems to be that the most recent addition is on top. A selected item may be brought to the top of that layer type simply by Copying that selection to Clipboard (Right Click), then deleting (Del) the selection, then Paste (Tools). (However, that does not work for Polygons.)

See in this forum "Visible (with single-click) listing …" for a single-click approach to viewing the show/hide status of the frequently-edited layer types.

The implementation of this idea, that is, reducing the number of clicks to reach a desired selection, should be extended to make other TNP operations more intuitive and quicker for new users to learn, and more efficient for everyone. See a related idea, "Preference changes may be simplified…"

Extend caver456's suggestion allowing not only display but also editing of the secondary coordinates in the Edit Marker boxes. (Note that both primary and secondary coordinates of the cursor are displayed by the toolbar.)

Extend Michael's suggestion by recognizing the availability of USGS DEM data in (the newer) GridFloat format *flt or (the older) DEM format *.dem. The GridFloat format is preferred for new applicatioins because the *.dem format is being phased out by the USGS; also, the GridFloat is more convenient to download with its larger coverage in a single file.

Do this now: Convert Track to Route (right-click on the track), drag route waypoints desired, convert back to Track (right-click).

Easier-- use the Distance tool, which can be used to place points anywhere, then convert to Route (right-click on the Distance line)
